Still life study
Now and again I like to visit my state's art gallery as they regularly feature and rotate work from the old masters, even if art isn't your thing I highly reccomend viewing these types of work as they are truely inspiring, plus it's often free!
This German made, Oak carved and polychrome, statue of a seated Apostle was made sometime in the 17th centurary by an, unfortunately, unknown artist. It was purchased by my local gallery (the Queensland Art Gallery) in 1961.
My take on it
I love doing still life's as it's purely about capturing the form
and not the detail. I generally restrict myself a slot of about
five to ten minutes for a sketch of this type, to stop me from getting caught up
in the details.
This sketch took me about ten minutes annd as you can see, I hate faces and decided
to work on shading instead.
